When Sidewalk Specials encountered the little pup during outreach in De Doorns, he was in a pitiful state. Squiggle sat motionless, drool dripping from his mouth, unable to eat or drink. His body was weak, and it was clear he was in immense pain. The team knew they needed to act fast. After speaking with his owner, who agreed to surrender him, Squiggle was rushed to the hospital for urgent care.
The veterinarians quickly performed X-rays to determine what was causing Squiggle’s condition, and the results were shocking. A bone was lodged in his throat, making it impossible for him to swallow. Additionally, a wire was found in his stomach, and on top of that, he was suffering from tick bite fever. Squiggle’s odds of survival were slim, and the combination of his ailments made the situation even more dire. Yet, the rescuers were determined to give him every chance to pull through.
Immediate surgery was performed to remove the bone from Squiggle’s throat and the wire from his stomach. The medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize him, treating his tick bite fever and ensuring he received the nourishment and care he needed to recover.
