When I was eight-years-old I had a high fever that caused extremely vivid dreams. In one, a pack of wolves sat in a semi-circle around my bed. They were facing outward, as if guarding me, and I didn’t feel the slightest bit threatened by their presence. Years later, I was telling this story to a group of friends when a Native American woman approached me. She explained that the wolves were my Animal Totems protecting me in my time of need.
Totems or Spirit Animals appear to us in dreams, during meditation, and sometimes even in nature. Everybody has one, but most people have no idea how to identify theirs. Animal totems choose us based on our needs and personality traits, and they may change over time as we ourselves grow and change.
