How Am I Supposed to Practice When THIS Happens

Practicing is supposed to be about focus, discipline, and improvement. But sometimes, no matter how hard you try, the universe (or your surroundings) has other plans. And let me tell you—this practice session was a perfect example of that.

Everything started off fine. I was in my zone, ready to concentrate, feeling motivated to sharpen my skills. But just as I was settling into a groove—bam! Chaos struck. At exactly 1:55, something so ridiculously funny happened that I completely lost it. There was no recovery after that. I was done.

I honestly don’t know how I even try to get through a full practice session with the kind of distractions I have to deal with. Whether it’s a pet deciding that my instrument is their new plaything, a sudden loud noise from the most random source, or just my own epic failures, something always finds a way to interrupt me.

This time, though? This was a next-level distraction. I wasn’t just mildly thrown off—I was on the floor, gasping for air, unable to function from laughter. You know those moments where something unexpected happens, and it just hits you right in the funny bone? Yeah, that was this.

To make it worse (or better?), I tried to regain my composure and keep going—but once you’ve laughed that hard, there’s no going back. Every time I tried to focus again, the memory of what happened at 1:55 would pop into my head, and I’d start laughing all over again. It was hopeless.

I have no idea how professional musicians, athletes, or performers manage to keep a straight face when things go wrong. Because if I ever had to play through a moment like this in front of an audience? Game over.

So yeah, practice is important, and I take it seriously… most of the time. But when this kind of thing happens, I just have to accept defeat. Sometimes, you’ve gotta put down the instrument, step away, and just enjoy the chaos. Because honestly? These are the moments that make it all fun.

At this point, I should probably just record my practice sessions—not for progress, but so I can make a blooper reel. If this keeps up, I could have an entire comedy special on my hands!
