With extreme caution, they tilted the trash can, lowering it toward the crate inch by inch, making sure not to startle or injure the vulnerable animals inside.
Then, in a moment that felt almost magical, the mama cat, later named Mrs. Brisby, saw the light streaming into the open crate. Instinct took over, and she made her way straight into the trap, trusting that she was finally safe.
