Bear Crashes Colorado Race

On Sunday, some runners in a race through the Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs had a surprising guest. About halfway though the Garden of the Gods 10 Mile Run, a bear approached the road looking like he was preparing to play Frogger. He waited until there was some space between runners before dashing across the road.

Donald Sanborn took a couple of pictures of the bear. On Facebook, he said, “Why did the bear cross the road? To scare the runners and make me lose precious time in the middle of a race!”

Sanborn said that he’s encountered bears, elk, turkeys, bobcats, and other wildlife on training runs, but he hasn’t seen an animal like this in a race. The race runs through Garden of the Gods Park between Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. This is a good reminder to be aware of your surroundings when exercising outdoors!
